Massachusetts hosts many globally recognized biotech and pharmaceutical companies, including Millennium Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca International, Boston Scientific, Genzyme, Wyeth BioPharma, PerkinElmer, and Affymetrix. Additionally such esteemed research institutions as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Joslin Diabetes Center call Massachusetts home.
The Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, operating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), seeks to define innovative research via teaching affiliations. The Massachusetts Society for Medical Research promotes the health and well-being of people, animals, and the environment. Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives promotes laboratory space and support services in order to provide growth of start-up companies.
